That seems strange. I regularly open .docx both with 2.8.2 and 2.9. Maybe they
sent you random filled documents. Just kidding.

Not really, but... do these open correctly the aforementioned .docx?
If you don't mind paying some money, TextMaker, from SoftMaker Office, is a
nice product (Abiword is better, IMHO).
