Fancy mailmerge with pictures

Hi abiword users,

OK this is my first post :-)

I would like to generate property brochures using abiword.

I have no problem generating a mailmerge 'form brochure' with fields
for substitution with text fields but I would like to know whether it
is possible to provide 'links' to images.

Ideally I would like to generate brochures not only with text but also
with images of the property.

Once generated I would convert them to pdf brochures which would sit
on my webserver for my customers to view or download.

Currently I generate pdf brochures programmatically using the FPDF PHP
class library but really this is hard work if I want to change my
template. It would be much easier to have an abiword template that
supported images as mailmerge data.

Any ideas on how I could achieve this with abiword.
